The primary goal of RC54 is to promote rigorous academic knowledge about the region while fostering critical dialogue, collaboration, and real-world impact. This includes advancing research through comparative cross-regional projects, filling gaps in scholarship and publishing special issues in Q1 journals. In terms of collaboration and networking, the committee will build partnerships with national and regional associations, think tanks, as well as with other IPSA research committees on topics of mutual interest, connect scholars through funding matchmaking for South-South research teams, and engage policymakers through annual roundtables at regional forums. Education and mentorship are also central, with plans to train emerging scholars through methodological bootcamps and to share open-access teaching resources including syllabi, case studies, and multilingual datasets.

Finally, RC54 is committed to advocacy and social impact by informing public debates on critical issues such as democratic quality, migration, human rights, and environmental crises, and by influencing policy through evidence-based recommendations to governments and international bodies.
